Otto: a handmade mohair teddy bear

Otto is a dapper young bear with scruffy 'windswept' mohair and an endearingly serious face. He looks very smart in his handmade trousers, sewn from vintage British wool and finished with leather straps and buckles.

Otto has been handmade in my Sussex workshop from a lovely sparse mohair by Steiff-Schulte in a pale gold on a light tan (slightly apricot) background cloth. Otto has stone coloured woolfelt paw pads. He is a five-way jointed bear with traditional cotter pin joints.

This traditional style teddy bear has a firmly stuffed head, filled with traditional wood-wool and wood shavings. His limbs are stuffed with wood-wool, giving him a very vintage feel, but his tummy is softly stuffed with heavy-weight polyfibre. I have added weight to his feet and tummy with steel shot, so he is very satisfying to hold, and sits well.

This beautiful bear has English glass eyes and black cotton-stitched claws and muzzle. He is 26cms tall and weighs around 380g.

Otto will arrive with a provenance tag to identify him as made by Jenny Gale of Winter's Den.
